It's not just The X Factor that has been seeing a decline in viewers, with Strictly Come Dancing's final posting a record low yesterday.

Last night's final show was the last watched for almost a decade, with the lowest figure since 2005.

An average audience of 10.65 million viewers tuned in to the evening's first live show as the final four performed.

Less than an hour later, more than 400,000 had tuned out as 10.2 million watched the winner crowned.

The figure is down over 1.2 million viewers on last year and nearly 2 million on the year before that.

It's in fact the lowest rated final result since 2005, when a round 10 million viewers tuned in.

The Strictly Come Dancing 2014 final peaked with 11.46 million viewers but that was NOT when it was revealed who won, rather much earlier in the night at 7:30PM.

The peak audience was also well down year-on-year, having dropped over a million viewers on 2013's figure.

Still, the numbers are ones that The X Factor this year could only dream of…

Strictly will return to BBC One for another series next autumn.
