A terrified Melanie Sykes was forced to confront her fear of swimming underwater when she took on her final I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Bushtucker Trial.
Yesterday was the final day of the series, meaning the final three contestants was each set their own challenge – and Mel panicked when she discovered that hers involved water.
Arriving at the trial clearing, she told hosts Ant and Dec: "I'm really nervous. I've had to wait for the boys. It's been their worst fears, so I know it's something that I'm not going to be able to get along with, so I've gone to pieces. I nearly cried in camp."
In 'Drown and Out', Mel had to collect stars from hatches on the sides of a giant tank, which was gradually filled with water. As always, she was joined by various jungle creatures along the way.
"I never swim under water because I wear contact lenses, so it's a real tall order for me, this," explained the TV presenter.
On the first side of the tank, Mel retrieved two stars from hatches containing eels, mud crabs, yabbis and soldier crabs. She then hit a button, lowering a grate that allowed her in to the second side.
With the water at waist height, the 44-year-old had to dive under to collect her third star, leaving her gasping for breath.
However, she carried on and managed to grab her fourth and fifth stars as the liquid came up to her chest.
"I wouldn't believe I did it," exclaimed a jubilant Mel as she climbed out of the tank. "I am so overwhelmed and so excited.
"I just don't go under water. You know when you do your intermediate (at school), I could never dive for the brick. And I got five stars. I don't know where it came from."
For getting the full house, Mel earned the dessert course for the campmates' final supper, as well as a drink and a bonus treat.
