The X Factor 2016 kicks off filming this week and Louis Walsh is returning to the judges' desk.
It will be his twelfth series overall having missed out on last year's show as part of a major revamp.
The changes didn't quite work and this year most of them have been undone as Dermot O'Leary returns to host the show while the Room Auditions also make a comeback.
Speaking on BBC Radio 2 today, as it happens to former X Factor host Kate Thornton, Louis said: "I still think it's the best show on TV.
"It's the most talked-about show on TV. I know I wasn't there last year - and it wasn't as good! But I'm back!"
Louis went on to say that his year out proved a "really good thing for me" and claimed he knew last year's series was going to struggle.
He said (via DigitalSpy): " Ratings weren't good, so I knew watching the first show it wasn't going to work.
"I called Simon really late that night, and said, 'You've messed with it too much. It's not working!' He didn't say anything for a second, and then he said, 'Maybe you're right'."
Alongside Louis, Simon has also brought back Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne to the panel, replacing Nick Grimshaw, Cheryl Cole and Rita Ora.
While now Louis and Sharon are now "best friends", he revealed things were VERY different back when the show began in 2004.
"I dreaded meeting her," Louis explained. "I was on a Radio 1 show where I was reviewing the pop records, and I had to review Kelly Osbourne's 'Papa Don't Preach', and I slagged it because it was an awful record."
He recalled: "I remember being really nervous and saying, 'God Sharon, you're looking really well!' She didn't like me at the start.
"We became really good friends as the series went on and on and on. I go t to really like her - we're best friends now!"
The X Factor will air on ITV later this year.
