The National Television Awards 2015 took place tonight as the best of the nation's TV in 2014 took to the 02 Arena to fight it out for one of the sought after gongs. Fronted by Dermot O'Leary, 17 awards were handed out on the night with everyone from Celebrity Big Brother to Sheridan Smith nominated.

Look below to see the winners and (graceful) losers of the night:

The first award of the night for 'Best Entertainment Programme' was presented by Strictly's Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman to I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. Also nominated was Keith Lemon's Through The Keyhole, Celebrity Big Brother and Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway. And that wasn't the only time Ant and Dec bounded up the stairs of the 02 arena…

They also romped home with the 'Best Entertainment Presenter' award, beating Bradley Walsh, Keith Lemon and show host Dermot O'Leary to take home the gong, awkward…

The 'Best Drama Performance' award was given out to Sheridan Smith for her portrayal of Cilla Black in the one off two-part drama Cilla who was nominated alongside Dame Maggie Smith from Downton Abbey, Sarah Lancashire from Happy Valley and Benedict Cumberbatch from BBC's Sherlock. Unfortunately the winner wasn't there to pick up her award after being caught in traffic but she made a rather late appearance to give her winning speech.

The Great British Bake Off picked up an award in the new 'Best Skills Programme' category. Presented by Matilda Ramsay, the daughter of chef Gordon Ramsay, Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood's baking show beat off competition from MasterchefCome Dine With Me and The Apprentice which led to Mark Wright giving the best loser's face we've ever seen.

The Voice UK and Big Brother host Emma Willis presented the award for Best Newcomer to Maddy Hill from EastEnders for her role as Nancy Carter in the popular soap. Maddy was the only female nominee shortlisted with Cameron Moore (Cameron Campbell in Hollyoaks), Lee Mead (Lofty in Casualty) and Michael Parr (Ross Barton in Emmerdale) filling up the shortlist.

The 'Best Daytime Programme' award was handed out to ITV's This Morning who beat The Jeremy Kyle ShowPointless and The Chase to pick up the gong for the fourth consecutive year.

Davina McCall was reunited with Dermot as she handed out a 'Landmark Award' to Comic Relief who are celebrating thirty years this year. Accepting the award was comic Lenny Henry who was one of the live telethon's founders in 1985.

Comedy legend David Jason was there to hand out the award for 'Comedy' to Mrs Brown's Boys who beat BenidormThe Big Bang Theory and Outnumbered. Unfortunately Mrs Brown herself was nowhere to be seen as Brendan O'Carroll opted for the standard tux to receive the award for his popular comedy show.

The award for 'Best Serial Performance' went to Danny Dyer for his performance during the Christmas episodes of EastEndersbeating his on-screen wife Kellie Bright (Tina Carter), Verity Rushworth (Donna Windsor) from Emmerdale and Nikki Sanderson (Maxie Minniver) from Hollyoaks.

The 'TV Judge' award was handed out via the comfort of a settee as the Tapper family from Gogglebox announced that David Walliams from Britain's Got Talent was the winner. And in a delicious twist of fate, Simon Cowell, who was also nominated alongside Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Mary Berry, was forced to pick up the award on his colleague's behalf. Mary Berry was robbed, we demand a recount!

The 'Multichannel' award was handed out by Kris Jenner to Celebrity Juice but the real headline was Kris' embarrassing attempt at reading out the nominees, pronouncing Geordie Shore as Georgie Shaw and missing out the last two nominees until they had flashed off the screen.

Feisty Mel B handed out the award for 'Best Chat Show Host' to Alan Carr for the hugely popular Chatty Man, beating stiff competition from Graham Norton, Jonathan Ross and Paul O'Grady prompting him to launch into an impromptu rendition of Bruno Mars' 'Uptown Funk'.

The 'Special Recognition' award was given out to Doctor Who and Broadchurch star David Tennant after an…interesting performance of 'Five Hundred Miles (I'm Gonna Be) by Pixie Lott and The Proclaimers. After a VT of messages left for David by co-stars from his various acting projects including Catherine Tate, Billie Piper and Olivia Colman as well as Russell T. Davies, the producer behind Doctor Who's revival, a speechless David received his award to a standing ovation from the audience.

I'm A Celebrity contestant Michael Buerk was on hand to hand out the gong for 'Best Factual Programme' to Gogglebox. Show originals Sandy and Sandra were on hand to accept the award on behalf of all the families who feature on the C4 series but the Tapper family who had previously appeared via video link were also shown celebrating. Top GearLong Lost Family and Paul O'Grady: For The Love Of Dogs were also up for the gong.

The award for 'Best Drama' went to Downton Abbey beating out the likes of Cilla, Doctor Who and Sherlock.

The penultimate award of the night, the much awaited award for 'Best Serial Drama' was awarded to EastEnders capping off a very successful night for the show who cleaned up in all the categories in which they were nominated. Show original Adam Woodyat paid tribute to long-standing rival soap Coronation Street before announcing that they were accepting the award in honour of Coronation Street legend Anne Kirkbride, who passed away earlier this week to a standing ovation from the audience.

And the last award of the night for 'Talent Show' went to The X Factor to the delight of Simon Cowell who triumphed over rival talent series Strictly Come DancingThe Voice UK and of course his other programme Britain's Got Talent.

Were you pleased with the award winners? Any gongs you disagreed with?
