X Factor's Jake Quickenden has hit back at show boss Simon Cowell.
It follows a dig made by Simon about Jake's move to enter the I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here jungle.
Simon had complained about contestants who used The X Factor just to be become famous and also sniped: "What we want on this show are people who want to be recording artists in the real world."
However Jake has now retaliated and insisted he IS a serious musician and is not just after a quick route to fame.
"It's not about being famous for me, it's about doing something I love," he said this week. "I love music, but when I'm A Celeb came up, I didn't once think, 'Oh, that could make me more famous'.
"It was a great opportunity. I'd have been an idiot to turn it down.""
Speaking to Heat magazine, Jake explained: "I went out of The X Factor at the right time.
"I wasn't as good as the other acts.
"And the fact I came out when I did meant that I got approached by I'm A Celeb which was the best thing that ever happened to me."
Jake also revealed that he was still in touch with mentor Mel B on the show, saying: "She's amazing. So normal, it was never like hanging out with a Spice Girl."
Jake made it to the final of I'm A Celebrity but was beaten by Carl 'Foggy' Fogarty in the public vote.
