Deadlock is set to be axed from The X Factor UK for next year's series.
Although it seems like plans for a replacement haven't really been thought out yet.
The current elimination system sees deadlock come into play when the four judges cannot agree on which of the bottom two acts to send home.
It means that the judges don't get a say and instead the result is determined by the public poll, with the one act with the fewest votes getting the boot.
This year deadlock has been used a number of times, much to the frustration of fans.
"Viewers want to see the judges make actual decisions. What are they actually getting paid for – just sitting there and smiling?" a source said today.
They told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Deadlock used to be an exciting element of the show – when the power was given back to the viewer. But now it's just boring as it's used almost every week.
"When a genuinely good singer loses out because a judge can't bring him or herself to make the decision to save them then something is seriously going wrong."
It's not entirely clear how producers will avoid deadlock, with speculation of a fifth judge seeming like overkill to fix such a small problem.
However, with ratings for the series down again last night, it's perhaps wise that a big overhaul of the programme is needed.
For now, The X Factor 2014 continues tonight on ITV with the latest results (including possible deadlock), plus performances from last year's X Factor winner Sam Bailey, US X Factor finalists Fifth Harmony and Frozen star Idina Menzel.
