Mel B won't be back on The X Factor 2014 final tonight after being told to remain in hospital.
It's entirely clear what is wrong with Mel, but the singer was forced to pull out of the live show last night with former judge Tulisa stepping in for her.
A source said: "Everyone is very, very worried. Simon has been in constant touch with her husband to keep updated.
"Simon hasn't spoken to Mel because she cannot use her phone but has been fully informed about her condition.
They added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Cheryl has also expressed concern. Mel is such a livewire. Everyone is really, really stunned at how quickly this illness took hold of her. Simon is in shock, we are all in shock."
Cheryl herself is quoted as telling pals: "I'm beside myself with worry. I know what it's like to work flat out on The X Factor.
"It's gruelling and Mel has put her heart and soul into the series and her contestants."
A spokesperson for Mel said that her illness was "serious" but insisted that the Spice Girl had been "desperate" to make the final.
They said of a potential appearance on tonight's show: "At this stage the prospects of that seem very, very remote. Mel's well-being is paramount. She is getting the best possible care and attention."
Mel's last remaining act Andrea Faustini bowed out of the show last night, finishing in third place.
"During this experience she's been so supportive of me. She's more than a judge, she's a friend.," he said. "I'm very happy because I've found a friend in Mel and she'd do literally anything to make me feel at home.
"I'm very happy I had the chance to work with her. She's very honest and direct."
This year's final airs tonight from 8PM on ITV, live from Wembley Arena, where the remaining two contestants will once again appear in front of an audience of thousands.
The shows will also feature guest performances from One Direction, Sam Smith and Olly Murs.
