Strictly Come Dancing's head judge Len Goodman has confessed he didn't think that the show would 'ever work'.
The BBC One show has become a global hit and is currently airing it's twelve consecutive series here in the UK.
But Len admitted he feared that the format would not take off when it was first pitched to him.
"I never thought Strictly would work," he said this weekned. "I remember it very clearly. I got the job and I said to my old Sue: 'Nobody is really interested in ballroom dancing any more.'
"I was convinced the pros would not be able to teach the celebs to much of a standard. How wrong I was – and now it is everywhere."
While Len has been proved wrong on that count, he did claim that the format still had a frustrating problem in that the female celebs always had it easier.
"They do have a tougher time as they have to do all the lifts," Len said of the male celebs. "When the pro men take hold, it is natural as they have done it since they were children.
"The poor old celebrity boys have got to do all that.
"They have got to try to keep their elbows up and keep a flat back which the pro boys don't have to worry about."
He added: "The celebrity boys have a much tougher time."
